Before Gomringer and Noigandres: The Russian Avant-Garde Book

 

In many ways, Russian artists and graphic designers in the first decades of the 20th century prefigured some of the elements of the Concrete Poetry. They both understood language as a material form  and the alphabet itself as a visual repertoire. This link is to a brochure produced by the Museum of Modern Art for an exhibition in 2002.
