Broadside Text/Image!

This is our second and final creative project of the semester. Each student will make a broadside  (either using traditional media or digital tools). The term broadside historically means something along the lines of a public poster. You can look up broadside on Wikipedia to get an idea. Here's a link to a broadside project I worked on several years ago. Take a look and get an idea of what's possible.

Each student will write an original text and combine it with imagery of your choosing. The imagery might be appropriated from another source or collaged, but the literary text should be both new and original. You might think of the text as a poem or some other construction using language (non-English is welcome).

Come to class on Wednesday with a concept, maybe some sketches, maybe more.

Next Monday, November 11, your final version is due in the form of a PDF. We will have critique that day on the digital projector, and I'll print them up on 13 x 19 photo paper later next week.

Have fun! Questions?  csmith@dcad.edu
