Some thoughts on the future of literature...

Yes, society has strayed from reading traditional literature, whether it be the lack of one’s free time, one’s attention span, or one’s boredom, but it should not be deleted off of the face of this earth entirely.  TG.

Many people hear the word traditional and think antiquated and obsolete, but I don’t think society would ever want to be truly rid of it [literature]. All of these different forms of writing have their place in society, and as we continue to grow and advance, I’m sure there will be even more experimental ways of expression in the future. NA

Books can be beautiful decorated, you can feel the relief of the text or the design on a book, you can physically see the artwork or graphic design that has been made for the book which is something you’ll never obtain with an ebook. MF

In order to see where we’ve ended up we need to see where we’ve come from, and classic literature is the perfect way to do that. The cycle will continue to move with our current literature eventually being considered classic and giving insight on who we were at this time to future generations, and so on and so on.  MM

Literature, for me and others like me, is like a ray of hope in this dark world. It is an escape from the negativity of life. Literature has given me a new perspective and has drastically changed me as a person. I thank Virginia Woolf, for the feminism in her works that reflects the quality of her thoughts, which this generation lacks. JH

Literature is still used a form of escape and outlet for creativity for many people. If anything, social media has given literature another outlet. Things like books being on the internet makes being engaged with literature extremely accessible.  EE

Literature is so meaningful, yet so meaningless. The meaning behind words that we read or see is created in our own minds, so the letters and words could mean nothing to the reader, or they could mean the world to the reader as well. This all depends on how the reader interprets the literature. CL

Literature today should be proud to be accessible. No matter the movement of writing, there is accessibility to it through the internet as well as through print. Lately, audiobooks have snuck back into my life and I am very happy I’ve rediscovered that side of my escapism. Now, while I create worlds of my own, I can revisit the worlds that inspired me in the first place.  AD

Writers are simply adapting and reacting to the changes that they are witnessing by inventing new formats to create literature in, more than just ink on paper. Even though new methods are being created, traditional methods of literary expression will continue to endure as they’ve always done throughout history because people will always have some kind of story to tell. I don’t think we’ll ever truly get rid of any of those traditional methods, we will just continue to expand and improve these methods so they can adapt to the ever-changing world. AP
