Reading Assignment for October 3
The most famous manifesto is probably Marx and Engels's The Communist Manifesto (1848) with its unforgettable opening line, "Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains!"
Because the following manifestos are very short, I recommend reading them at least twice. These four are in the Norton class text:
Headnote, 641-642
Marinetti, 642-646
Tzara, 652
Breton, 653-659
Black Panther Party, 665-667
Come to class ready to discuss and debate not only the form of these manifestos, but the ideas that animate them.
Remember that you'll be writing your own manifesto and making it into a small book for next Monday, October 8.
