Introducing Our Flash Fiction Juror: Dan Gutstein

On the left is a picture of the juror of our flash fiction competition: Dan Gutstein.

Dan is a writer, teacher, documentary filmmaker, musician, essayist, YA novelist, and blogger based in Washington, DC. Flash fiction was one of his first loves. He has agreed to choose a winner and two runner-ups, and also to write a few words about the merits of his three choices. Here's a great interview with Dan from 2016. In particular, scroll down until you see his "Eight Tips for Writers of Flash Fiction."

Your flash fiction story should be more than 300 and fewer than 1000 words. If you want to write micro-flash fiction, stories under a hundred words or so, submit more than one.

If you want to include a single "establishing" image at the top, go for it. Otherwise, it should just be your words. No hate language or excessive violence, but anything else goes. Have fun, edit closely, have fun, and edit closely. Get help from a tutor in the Writers Studio. Reach out to me or Meegs in the library.

Winner = $100 cash

Honorable Mentions (2) = $20 cash

Hard Deadline: Wednesday, December 1, 2:00 pm Upload to Populi
