Yoko Ono: A More Important Artist Than Her Famous Husband

 





Women in the Fluxus movement were often marginalized; it's kind of like the situation with the Beat Generation writers who worked at approximately the same time that Fluxus was at its high point in the late 50s and early 60s.

Yoko Ono's book Grapefruit remains a central text of the Fluxus movement. It's hard to classify because it collapses the standard genre markers. It is art and it is writing and there really is no difference according to Ono. This short video explains Yoko Ono's central position in the history of avant-garde art.
