Wednesday, October 23: What is Feminism? Virginia Woolf vs Valerie Solanas
Virginia Woolf and Valerie Solanas's manifestos were separated by only about 50 years, yet what a difference! On Wednesday we'll be talking about their different approaches to feminism. Read carefully the excerpts from the Norton Anthology. Woolf's A Room of One's Own begins on page 339, and Solanas's Scum Manifesto begins on page 667. Be ready for a bracing discussion.
Three copies of the Norton Anthology are available on reserve in the library.
Your new brief essay will address the difference in literary style these two writers use to express their ideas. This one-page single-spaced essay will be due next Monday, one week from today, Monday, October 28. Details to follow. Q: csmith@dcad.edu
