A Couple of Clarifications...

The assignment for Monday asks you to write your own manifesto: choosing your own topic, position, and angle of approach. Some classmates were left with the idea that I prefer humor or satire. This is not true. Your manifesto can be deadly serious without any trace of humor. For instance, it's easy to see why humor does not come into play in the manifesto of the Black Panther Party.

Take another look at the manifestos we discussed in class on Wednesday. One of them might serve as a model of sorts.

Remember that you'll need to format your words in a narrow measure (to fit the mini-page), and that you might have to reduce the font size or edit down your text to get it to fit.

Your 8 text-blocks should be no larger than 2.25" wide by 3.5" high. One of them will be the title page, so that leaves you 7 mini-pages for your manifesto. Bring your file with you on a flash drive in case you need to adjust the format.

The 8.5" x 11" full-bleed image for the verso should relate somehow to the ideas in your manifesto. It can be your own artwork/photography/whatever. It can be collaged or appropriated from pop culture or advertising.

Come early on Monday if you need or want assistance, advice, guidance, positive reinforcement, etc. I'll be in the Writers Studio from 9 to noon.
